Virtual Assistants are awesome. Superheroes even. You know they can help stressed entrepreneurs and take care of all those tasks that are filling up your to do list. You need help! Of course, you need a VA! Well, think again. Because I'm going to tell you about 3 times you absolutely do NOT want to hire a VA.
Don't hire a Virtual Assistant If:
1. You Aren’t Ready
If you need help but have no idea what you need help with, pause on getting a Virtual Assistant. While a Virtual Assistant may be able to provide guidance, you are really the best person in your business to know where you need help and how you need help. Take the time to really look at your systems and processes and look at what you could outsource. By knowing exactly what you need help with, you'll save time and money with your Virtual Assistant.
2. You Really Need a Coach
If you are looking for someone to take your business to the ‘next level’, give you business advice or be a sounding board for your ideas, you might actually need a business coach. Coaches are trained and specialize in helping businesses and entrepreneurs grow. Virtual Assistants might give you some ideas, but they are mainly there to support you. There is one exception to this, however, and this is the Online Business Manager (OBM). OBM’s can help you grow your business AND support your business at the same time. But not every Virtual Assistant is an OBM.
3. You Think Virtual Assistants are Cheap Labor
Everyone has heard about that one guy who read ‘The 4 Hour Work Week” and hired an amazing Virtual Assistant for only $3 per hour. But, guess what? That’s pretty much an anomaly. Virtual Assistants are skilled professionals and they charge as such. If you want quality work, you’re going to have to pay $20-$60 an hour, depending on the task. But don’t let the price scare you away, Virtual Assistants usually help you save money in the end by taking care of the tasks you don’t want to do or don’t have time to do, freeing you up for the more important things in your business.
So there you have it. While you may want to hire that Virtual Assistant, make sure you are making the best decision for yourself and your business. It’ll save you a lot of time and energy in the end.
